You’re Here, You’re Queer, and You’re Safe

You deserve mental health care where you don’t have to explain or defend who you are. This is a space for queer, trans, nonbinary, and questioning people to show up fully - without having to filter, shrink, translate, or hide your experience.

This practice is built for queer people who want therapy that is affirming, honest, and a space where your identity is not the problem - a space to focus on what you want to heal, build, and reclaim.

Services

Individual Therapy

Queer people don’t just experience typical stress or anxiety - we often carry the impact of living in systems that have invalidated, erased, or harmed us. My approach to individual therapy is trauma-informed, which means I understand that many of the things you’re navigating - hypervigilance, people pleasing, masking, difficulty trusting, feeling like “too much” or “not enough” makes sense in the context of your lived experience in a marginalized community. In our work together, we will explore the intersectionality of yourself as an individual, living in a world that doesn’t always accept you. We will prioritize safety, choice, and collaboration. You won’t be pathologized for how you’ve learned to survive - we will honor the patterns and explore new tools to help you find the most authentic you.

Couples Therapy

Relationships are complex - and for queer couples, there are often added layers that don’t get talked about enough. Identity, visibility, family, safety, societal pressures, and past experiences can all shape how you show up for each other. You might be feeling disconnected, stuck in the same arguments, struggling with communication, navigating trust, or trying to rebuild after hurt. Queer couples therapy with me is a space for understanding patterns, improving communication, navigating conflict, and creating a relationship dynamic that feels mutual, respectful, and sustainable. We will do this all collaboratively, through a lens that recognizes the impact of systems, identify, and lived experiences.

Gender Affirming Care Plans and Letters

I utilize WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) guidelines to develop care plans for folx seeking gender affirming health care, including medications and surgeries. This includes things like better understanding what your goals are, learning to communicate your needs with others, setting healthy boundaries regarding your own body, and preparing for medical intervention and recovery.

If you don’t have a medical provider yet, no worries, I have referrals to get you set up with the right doctor!

I also write gender affirming care letters for those seeking intervention, as developed by WPATH, to give your best chances of not only getting the care you deserve but having insurance cover it!

Premarital Counseling and Wedding officiation

No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization's oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right."

- Justice Anthony Kennedy, June 26, 2015

There are a lack of professional resources for queer and non-traditional couples on the road to marriage. Traditionally, these services are provided by spiritual leaders, a space that has often rejected queer people. Instead, I utilize a person-centered therapeutic approach and pull from the most well renowned relational specialists such as Ester Perel and The Gottmans. I am a certified Prepare/Enrich Premarital facilitator (ID: 1369238), am certified as a Dually Ordained Minister, by the American Marriage Ministries, and filed in the state of Minnesota to officiate weddings.

Pre-marital Counseling has been found to reduce the rate of divorce by 30%. It is recommended you engage in both services, as opposed to just the Wedding Officiation Services to ensure a personalized wedding ceremony and best prepare yourselves for wedded bliss.

What: Pre-Marital Counseling includes

  • Prepare/Enrich Assessment and results evaluation with Angie

  • Prepare/Enrich Workbook with worksheets and activities to complete as a couple for a better understanding of each other and the relationship

  • Six 1 hour sessions of counseling, coaching, and education aimed to help couples enter marriage with a better understanding of their relationship, their partner, and themselves.

  • The option for additional sessions as needed. Of note, the state of Minnesota offers a 75$ discount for marriage licenses with a proof of completion, which can be provided after 6 sessions.

Cost: Unfortunately, I do not accept sliding scale for the below options - this is because the cost is already significantly discounted, with the awareness that queer folx face higher rates of financial insecurity. This cost does include the comprehensive prepare/enrich evaluation and workbook.

  • Premarital Counseling (assessment, workbook, and 6 sessions): 900$

  • Additional sessions 125$/hour

  • Wedding Officiation: 450$

  • Premarital Counseling and Wedding Officiation package offers a 100$ discount
